Donald "Don" Brehm was raised in Brattleboro Vermont and has a Mechanical Engineering Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. From an early age he has been interested in creative design and working with both hand and power tools.
He has founded and managed several high tech machine tool companies and a woodworking company gaining knowledge of both metal and woodworking processes.
Don concentrates on creating finely crafted unique abstract constructivist sculpture combining the best properties of metal and wood: the organic warmth of wood and the forms, structures, textures and patinas possible only with metal.
His work is done in a 2700 square foot shop/studio with a wide range of equipment. He has designed
and built special forging equipment and tooling and continues to experiment wiith techniques and finishes for his work.
Although his work is primarily for interior display, he has also created outdoor sculpture. Many of the small tabletop pieces can serve as maquettes for larger works.
