I create my three dimensional art by using various hand and power tools for both metalworking and woodworking in much the same way a painter would use canvas, brushes, and paints to create two dimensional art.
My work has been influenced by the abstract constructivist sculpture of Gonsales, Picasso, Gabo, Smith, and others. As in their work, the concept of space including negative volume is very important as well as balance and scale.
When working with wood along with metal, I try to use native woods that I have taken from local trees and combine it with the metal to add a feeling of warmth and life.
I am always fascinated by the way cold inert steel and other metals can be given vitality and beauty by the many shapes, textures, and patinas that are possible. I am always using new processes and finishes.
I do not create my sculpture with any conscious symbolism, bt strive to do work that has strong visual and tactille appeal to the viewer, withot trying to canvey any particular message.
