My Story

I have always been interested in doing woodworking since I was young. I went on to receive a Mechanical Engineering degree and then start and operate two high technology precision machine tool companies. My interest in art, design and metalworking made creating contemporary abstract sculpture in wood and steel a natural for me. The creative process of visualizing and then making an abstract work with my hands appealed to me and I have practicing this art for over 30 years.

I am a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen and a member of the Artist Blacksmith Association of North America.

I have shown my work at juried shows and have received awards for best sculpture. I have done commissions for public spaces and have donated works for fundraising events. I have had my work in galleries in NH, VT and MA.

My lifelong interest in both metalworking and woodworking has allowed me to combine steel and wood in my work, often using natural defects in wood to achieve abstract forms.

With my engineering background I have designed and built specialized equipment for Contempo Forge such as the 60 ton hydraulic press I use in creating my “sculptural deformation” freeform sculptures. My studio includes the usual woodworking equipment plus a metalworking shop with both traditional and modern equipment for forging, plasma cutting and welding. I have perfected patination techniques to add warmth and color to my pieces.

Each sculpture I make is original and unique; unlike cast sculptures where identical copies are made.
